Multimode fiber optic transceivers and single-mode fiber optic transceivers
Multi mode fiber optic transceivers, due to their multi node and multi port signal transmission in working mode, have relatively short signal distance transmission, but are low in price and convenient to use, and are mostly used for internal construction of local area networks; On the contrary, single mode fiber optic transceivers work in a single node, one port signal transmission mode, so the signal transmission distance is relatively long, forming the construction of cross metropolitan area networks.
Discrimination method
1. Check if the model contains s and m. S represents single mode, and m represents multimode.
2. From the perspective of transmission mode, single mode fiber optic transceivers receive and send data on one fiber, while multimode fiber optic transceivers receive and send data on two fibers.
3. Remove the dust cap on the optical port of the fiber optic transceiver and check the color of the interface components inside. Half of the interfaces of the multimode transceiver are brown, and the interfaces of the tx and rx of the single-mode transceiver are coated with white ceramic oil on the inside.
From the perspective of transmission distance, the transmission range of single mode fiber optic transceivers is between 20 kilometers to 120 companies, and the transmission range of multimode fiber optic transceivers is between 2-5 kilometers.
If it is a fiber optic transceiver that has already been used, it can be distinguished by the color of the fiber optic jumper. The yellow jumper generally represents single mode, and the orange red jumper generally represents multi mode.
The above are some methods for distinguishing between single mode and multimode fiber optic transceivers, but it should be noted that there is no good or bad distinction between the two. It is only that the suitable network environment is different, and the specific selection should be based on the usage environment. If a single multimode fiber connection is required between network devices, a multimode converter can be used for connection, which can effectively solve the problem of single multimode fiber conversion. However, it should be noted that single mode transceivers can operate in both single and multimode modes, but multimode transceivers cannot operate in single mode fibers.
